Prepare products, variants and stock

A checklist for organising your first collection and making product information easy to maintain.

Updated:

1. Gather the information

Prepare a name, description, price and suitable pictures for each product. Decide which details a customer needs to choose correctly. Keep information accurate and use the same units and terminology across your collection.

Group related products into categories or collections that customers understand. A small shop rarely needs a complex hierarchy; start with a structure you can explain in one sentence.

2. Plan variants and inventory

Use variants for genuine choices such as size or colour. Check that each combination has the right price, picture and stock information where relevant. Avoid names that look identical but refer to different items.

Decide how you will keep inventory current when the same products are also sold elsewhere. Do not assume automatic stock synchronisation with external systems unless your setup confirms it.

3. Review the customer view

Use the dashboard’s product and category areas to organise the collection. Preview the storefront and check how product information reads on mobile. Confirm that customers can distinguish variants and understand the available choices.

For digital items, review the product type and email delivery setup rather than treating them as parcels. Available options depend on your plan.

Explore product features, then use the payment and shipping checklist.
